Skill Building With SHRM

Yakima SHRM is partnering to develop a pilot project to help prepare junior and senior high school students, as well as entry-level workers for job search. The day-long event will be held at the Selah High School and feature key note speakers and breakout sessions addressing critical job skills.  This event is open and FREE to anyone who want to develop their job acquisition skills.  

This event will be at Selah High School and all confirmed attendees will be provided food and entered into a drawing for door prizes.  Confirmed prizes include but are not limited to:

  • 4 $25 Gift cards to Target, provided by the T0760 Yakima Target Store.
  • Two Free Registration (Worth $200) for a Motorcycle Safety Course that will teach you how to ride safely and have fun, this includes the tests to obtain an endorsement, provided by Central Washington Motorcyle Training.
  • Several Books on Job Searching provided by Central Washington University
  • One Viking mosaic wall decoration, donated by Yakima SHRM, Created by a Selah resident Kathy Hargroves.
  • Gift Cards to Magics Pizza

The Conference Schedule will be developed soon however topics will include:

  • A Keynoter Presentation: Generations in the Workforce:  How to work with your Grandma.
  • Navigating the Job Interview
  • Creating A Successful Resume
  • Market Yourself:  A How to Guide on using social media as a Resource.
  • ADA:  What is "reasonable accommodation" and what can you expect from an employer?
  • Professional Dress
  • Plus a chance to conduct mock interviews with local business and HR managers!
