Ridgeview Initiative

Author // Jesse Rodriguez Categories // Local News

Last month Yakima SHRM completed one of their initiatives. Several board members gathered at Ridgeview, a local group home geared towards getting youth women back on their feet.  We wanted to provide the girls with an oppurtunity to ask HR professionals about what to expect in the workforce, and the nuances of getting a job.

This two day process began on the first day by working with three youth.  After our introductions we opened the discussion and enabled them to ask many questions.  We varied on topics from completing an application, addressing criminal backround checks, resumes, and much more.

Day two brought more participants, and more discussions revolving HR and business topics.  Participants were then given an oppurtunity to go over their resumes and partake in a mock interview.  Each of us gave immediate feedback to each Ridgeview Youth upon completion, then to all in a group setting.

Participating board members also left contact information to the Ridgeview Program Administrator, in the event one of the youth had a question pertaining to resumes or job applications so they could reach out when appropriate.  Overall this was an excellent service provided by the Yakima SHRM chapter and we enjoyed reaching out to serve our community.
